30 05 04 + 5 - 6 popworld depression
Just watched "popworld" on C4 and found it thoroughly depressing ...
I know I'm not exactly the key target audience for the show but still.
Even allowing for the "I'm old and everything new is shit" factor, its
still a thoroughly thin time for pop. An endless parade of
media-trained, programmed clones. Its clear that the PR people have
decided what the audience wants to hear and recruited bodies whose main
talent appears to be subsuming any personality they may have had before
for the one written in the pop band handbook - go on, you be the wacky
one! I guess I'm just angry that there isn't a new music that people of
my age can hate because thay don't understand it, rather than hate
because they understand it all too well. As Mo in the Simpsons has been
known to shout, Won't someone think of the children? How fucked up are
kids going to be if their parents like the music they do and are happy
to have the latest cds playing on those long car trips to the country?
It can't last forever - the power base that has created this
super-controlled monster that is the current music industry is
crumbling fast. The sooner it collapses completely the better. Bring on
the chaos!
